History ~ Our Current Story ~ Seasons of Paragon ~ Plants & Animals of Paragon

Note: "Paragon" is similar in continental size to the real world Austrailia, for reference

History:

Long, long ago, before the time of man, fickle gods created a world that spun in space like a shimmering crystal. It's very make up was that of a spectacular gem on the inside, which could be viewed sparkling in the depths of it's endless seas and through the bottom of the topsoil of it's lands. Created out of boredom, they tossed out some random life, created a few land masses, and only after sating their appetite for world creation, moved on to other endeavors.

Over time, the dominant species of one of the land masses became the wolves. Survivors of nearly anything, with their ability to adapt to many different environments on this haphazardly created land; they took over and reduced the other intelligent species to distant history. The only other species alive besides the carnivorous wolves became their food; the hooved ones, small tree and hill dwellers, and small flighted ones that were able to get out of reach of the wolves.

It was then, after the land had become a stable paradise of wolves that a sorcerer came. Calling from the far reaches of another world, his experimentations with plane shifting led him here, and quite stranded him in the middle of this canine nirvana. However, he was intelligent, and had the powers of his sorcery to keep himself safe. Over time, as he observed the wolves, he realized that there seemed to be four basic 'packs' that stayed together; those that lived in the barren desert in caves underground, those that dwelled deep within the tangled forest, those that gathered around the large natural lake in the northern portion of the land, and those that dwelled within the high peaks of the mountain ranges.

Finding this a strange twist on things, he decided to use that to his advantage. After all, he was stranded here anyhow, and figured he may as well amuse himself while being so. Using his power over the elements, he chose the ones that best suited each pack; fire for the desert wolves, earth for the forest wolves, water for the lake wolves and air for the mountain wolves. Within each of the lands that these wolves lived, he chose a 'focus' to be used as a transmitter of a particular elemental magic. A fissure of smoldering underground magma that bled gas into the cave systems for the wolves of fire, the very bottom of the deep lake that the wolves of water lived about, an ancient rock deep within the forest of the forest dwelling wolves, and a whistling rock formation for the wolves selected to be of the air. It was to be an experiment with the elements and their transference to living beings through these mediums he had chosen, as each pack dwelled within and around the aura of his chosenly imbued 'focus'.

His plan seemed to work; each pack slowly bred into the different elemental traits he had imbued, and over ten long years, it seemed that the newer generations were slowly becoming more and more elemental. The wolves of the forest became quicker-moving and gained the ability to camouflage themselves in most any natural setting. The desert dwellers seemed to gain the ability to see in darkness, their eyes flaring up like a dying ember and when they walked it seemed their paws were aflame. Other traits were seen as well, such as the ability of the wolves that lived near water to seemingly 'push' the water with a thought, enabling them to seemingly catch fish by making the very water expel them!

However, there had been a snag in his plan; over the years, he had slowly been losing track of the air-imbued wolves. It seemed that every time he went to view their pack, it was dwindling and seeing that he had not viewed any of them growing physical wings, he knew they could not have simply flown off. After searching for long months and doing numerous other studies, he had realized that perhaps the air element had made them unstable and something catastrophic had happened. Returning to his home one evening, in the middle of this land, he fell asleep to tumbling thoughts in his mind about where they had gone and how they had managed to disappear. This would be the last thought he would have, as the air-imbued wolves had discovered something very interesting, and that evening, two males snuck invisibly into his dwelling and tore him to shreds, leaving naught but scraps of clothing.

Current Status:
It has now been 50 years since that occurence. Few wolves, and only those that have spoken with the Spiorad, know anything about their original creation, as that history has slipped from their current minds. There are only legends now that tell of their coming to this land, and they vary depending on the pack. The four elements from the origin have even been expanded upon and continue to evolve. For reference, the year is marked 50AE, meaning "after elemental".

Air ~ Dust ~ Earth ~ Fire ~ Lightning ~ Spirit

Air: The wolves of air reside in the Quartz Peaks region of Paragon. There is a tale told that the air wolves were graced by the air element specifically in an intent to be "higher" than the other wolves. This may or may not be true, obviously.

Dust: The wolves of dust were created in 50 AE when earth and air combined with the displacement of an earth wolf and an air wolf from their respective packs in the matter of romance. They could not live without each other, and thus their desire to be together, leaving their own elements to do so, created this sub-elemental pack. It's originators were wolves named Nexis (earth) and WindsDawn (air). Currently, WindsDawn is the Alpha; Nexis having been lost to the wilds shortly after the pack's creation. These wolves are Nomads, forever barred from entering the Elemental Territories, and wandering the Unclaimed Lands, moving with the seasons and game.

Earth: These wolves, simply by the nature of their home, deep within the Emerald Forest, tend to be more secluded from the other packs; being hard to get to by any that did not know the forest. Thus, many of them could be said to be unknowledgeable of much of the world. Many earth wolves consider themselves the caretakers of the living earth around them, and a select few branch out from their forest to explore the other lands.

Fire: The wolves of fire believe that they have been put here as the guardians of the world itself, with their ability to get very close to her core, their homes the underground tunnels and caverns beneath the Ruby Desert. Living in their underground haven, which other packs cannot successfully find without the aid of a fire wolf, they've stayed quite safe and secure all of these years.

Lightning: The wolves of the tempest were created long ago, out of an experiment gone completely wild by the sorceror. However, they knew nothing of this, and merely lived as one with the storms, generally going in and out of them on paths of lightning and scarcely staying on the ground, until their patron diety, in a fit of chaotic rage, caused their pack foci to be lost to the winds approximately 5 years prior to this current year of 50AE, which then sent these wolves into exile on a different land. (meaning, they were completely "kicked off the island into isolation" in 45AE) They have recently (Winter of 50AE) "regained" their packlands, the Pearly Cliffs, again after successfully finding said foci, having been tossed back onto the world itself after their exile and given a second chance by Toirnuili to once again exist as a pack. Thus, they now struggle to fit in as a pack within Paragon, not having had touch with some of the world for many years.

Spirit: The spirit wolves have existed since the beginning of the entire elemental experiement. A select few of them recall when Paragon was not elemental in the slightest. These wolves, having long been cursed with their lands continually "blinking" between the Shrouded Lands of spirit and the Material Lands of Paragon, are long-lived and have long memories. However, in the Fall of 50AE, they have managed to gain access to their original island packlands in the Material Lands, named the Carnelian Isle, and no longer waver back and forth, becoming a solid part of Paragon.

Seasons:
The seasons of Paragon fall in a generally even, every three months rotation based on the equinoxes and solstices. In our out of character time, they fall on specific days of the calendar; in the wolves' lives, they simply happen as a natural change of the world around them. Your wolves do NOT have calendars, thus they do not refer to the seasons as months, they will be able to tell what season it is by the length of daylight, the temperature, etc. etc.

~Winter, a time of colder temperatures as well as darker, shorter days with possibilities of snow and ice, starts on December 22nd and ends March 20th.
~Spring, a time where plants bloom and there are warmer temperatures with perhaps some rain from time to time, starts on March 21st and ends on June 20th.
~Summer, the warmest season with the longest days, where muggy conditions and high temperatures are likely, starts on June 21st and ends on September 22nd.
~Fall, a cooling season where plantlife dies off, there are brisk winds and the temperatures drop as the days shorten, starts on September 23rd.

The seasons do not affect all of the areas of Paragon equally. The territories claimed by the particular elements are affected differently as the elemental foci of the lands tends to change certain things accordingly. Below is a list of the elemental territories of Paragon and any differing effects that the seasons have on them:
Carnelian Isle
Emerald Forest
Pearly Cliffs
Quartz Peaks
Ruby Desert
Sapphire Lake
Winter
Temperatures still drop, however it only snows on the upper mountaintops.
Temperatures drop, however snow does not reach the ground in most places because of the thick canopies.
Normal
Normal
Temperatures drop but do not get to freezing, although snow may fall, it will melt quickly.
Normal
Spring
There is a lot of rainfall as there is already condensation in the air.
Normal
The cliffs stay cooler, not really warming up much, and growth of plantlife is scarce.
There is much rain during the springtime here.
The desert will stay warmer, not much growth of plantlife.
Normal
Summer
It will become quite muggy here, as the air is already very humid with mist.
It stays cooler because of the shielding effect of the canopy, summer is warmer than spring but not by much.
Normal
Normal
Temperatures rise more than other places, mostly normal.
Normal
Fall
Normal
Some of the outer trees will brown but the core of the canopy stays green all year round.
A biting wind rises up, making this area nearly uninhabitable.
Very windy, otherwise normal.
